Couch-to-5K Plan
Anyone can run a 5K. Check out the Couch-to-5K Plan from Cool Running. Josh Clark wrote the program in 1996. Since then, it is now available in 26 languages. There are podcasts and iPhone apps.

I would highly recommend the Bodybugg calorie management system. It's what the contestants of the Biggest Loser use to monitor their calorie input/output ratios.
Northwinds is now Endurance
Northwinds fitness center was recently bought out by Endurance Fitness.
A new membership with Endurance allows you to work out at any of the 10 Endurance Fitness Centers located throughout West Michigan including; Cascade, Alpine, Downtown Grand Rapids, Kentwood, Wyoming, Holland, Fowlerville, Muskegon, Caledonia, Kalamazoo and now North Muskegon.
A benefit to the new ownership is expanded access to the gym with 24 access!
The high prices and "business" attitude are a downfall as it replaces a "mom & pop" hometown atmosphere.
Northside 5K Run
The North Muskegon Northside Family Fun Fest 5K is a great race for the whole family. The 2011 race is on August 11th with a parade following.
2011 Chronicle Seaway Run
"The Chronicle Seaway Run is one of Michigan's most scenic and most popular runs. Plotted along the shores of Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake, this morning run is a favorite of runners from across Michigan and surrounding states. This 30th annual Run is scheduled for Saturday, June 25, 2011. All races start from the Muskegon Family YMCA, 900 W. Western Ave.
The 5K run is a mostly flat loop. The 15K run takes runners over gently rolling terrain to Lake Michigan before looping back to the YMCA. This year the Walk for Fun will follow the new Lakeshore Trail."

P90X
P90X is a home fitness program that requires about an hour a day for 90 days of commitment. You will need to buy the program and your own dumbbell sets and/or resistance bands, and a pull up bar. Yoga equipment is optional.
The program includes 12 workouts, fitness guide/nutrition plan, & calendar.
